UOW Workshop: Grand Designs: patterns & designs for collaborative e-learning activities 12 June 2012

Grand Designs: patterns & designs for collaborative e-learning activities

Yannis Dimitriadis, University of Valladolid, Spain with Sue Bennett & Sandra Wills, University of Wollongong

Tuesday June 12th 10am -1pm Room 22.107 Faculty of Education

About the workshop:

A major research area in education for several academics at UOW over the past thirteen years has been Learning Design. This workshop connects that research with Learning Design projects in UK and Europe and focuses on its usefulness to university teachers and course design teams especially when designing e-learning activities.

A learning design or pattern describes the essence of an e-learning activity with the intention of facilitating sharing and reuse by other teachers.

Participants in the workshop will:
• explore collections of learning designs for online role play, patterns for computer supported collaborative learning and patterns for assessment providing feedback on the usefulness of the various methods of describing e-learning activities
• participate in a mini-simulation of the University of Valladolid model for using patterns with course design teams
• discuss the potential of a designs and patterns approach to UOW’s “Grand Design” for enhancing courses that are migrating to the new eLearning Platform.
